Queens R1: Andy Murray vs Alexei Popyrin

24 year old Popyrin is an Australian player of Russian descent.  Currently ranked No. 49 he has a career high of No. 38 achieved on 26 February this year.  He has two ATP Tour titles - Singapore Open 2021 and Croatia Open 2023.  He has also represented Australia in the Davis Cup.  This year he notably defeated the defending champion Andrey Rublev in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters, taking it 6-4, 6-4, making this his second career top 10 win.

While Popyrin has a powerful serve and equally powerful groundstrokes, he has so far not been able to make inroads on grass in the same way that he has on hard and clay courts, where his two Tour titles have come on.  This year partnering Mark Lajal  he reached the semi-finals of the doubles at Surbiton and R2 of the singles at the Libema Open where he lost to Tommy Paul in three.

The match is scheduled for today 3rd on Centre Court at an estimated time of 3:30 pm.

The weather is predicted to be very warm, manly cloudy but dry.

This will also be Andy's 1,000th ATP match.

Excellent first set by Andy! Good serving, solid grass-court tennis. No drama!

Rotten luck for Dan—it was definitely something to do with his right knee, they showed him lying down and being asked to bend it and he looked pretty gloomy. Do hope it's not serious.

And the other British guy, Billy Knight, beat Etcheverry.
