Queens R1: Andy Murray vs Alex de Minaur

Quote

De Minaur has defeated Andy at their last three meetings - 2019 Zhuhai Open, 2022 Laver Cup and this year's Monte Carlo Masters.

The 24 year old is currently ranked No. 18 (highest No. 15 in June 2021) and has 7 ATP Tour titles, the last being gained at this year's Mexican Open where he beat Tommy Paul in the final.  His most recent achievements on grass have been getting to the semi-finals at Queens in 2021 where he fell to Matteo Berrettini, and then winning his fifth title at Eastbourne by defeating Lorenzo Sonego.  At Eastbourne last year he got to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual winner Taylor Fritz, and then reached round 4 at Wimbledon, defeating Hugo Dellien, Jack Draper and Liam Broady before going out to Christian Garin in five sets.  He kicked off his grass court season this year at the Libema Open where he reached the quarter-finals but lost 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 to Tallon Greikspoor, going 1/14 on break points, something which contributed significantly to his defeat.

The match is scheduled 3rd on Centre Court today at an estimated time of 3:30 pm.

Korda beats Evans, not a helpful result, means Murray would need to reach the final to have a chance at passing him.

Good luck Andy, rely on your tennis smarts and just know you are so much smarter than De Minaur.  Yes he has beaten you in the past but you are so much better now then you were when he beat you.  Believe in yourself, I do.....

Hopefully two things in Andy's favour: he's now had tons of recent practice on grass (which I don't think De Minaur can have) and De Minaur hasn't played him on this surface. The other thing I would say that I think has been a problem for Andy when playing him is that De Minaur is kind of a backboard/grinder, and I think that is much less of an advantage on grass, where the points are usually relatively short. I hope so anyway!

There was some help for Andy from other Brits playing yesterday.
Ryan Peniston beat Ugo Humbert who also had a chance to become seeded!
The eventual seedings are not simple to determine and I think Wimbledon still have discretion to take account of performances specifically on grass but nothing appears to be confirmed. Then there are potential and known withdrawals which may be between three and six players!
All I am wanting Andy to do here is to beat the Australian and win in the next round to keep moving up in the rankings to help advance his options later.
I think that is possible but potentially difficult for R2

Lehecka beats Fokina, which is a huge help. Need Alcaraz to beat him in r2, get Shelton eliminated in r2 and a qf will probably be enough for Murray to reach 33 in the rankings. That will be enough for a seeding. Biggest match in a long time today. Win and he shouldn't have much issue with Schwartzman r2 on grass.

Quite a few more seeds than I realised are in a race to be fit. Auger-Aliassime, Khachanov, Kyrgios and Nishioka all doubts, with Carreno-Busta already out. Could be as low as 37 makes seeding.

Just in case people don't know, Andy is also playing doubles with Cameron Norrie tomorrow.

Rinderknech giving Alcaraz a hard time and if he hadn't slipped and fallen I think he could have won that 2nd set and the match.  Anyway, onto a decider

And Alcaraz does win 7-3 in the tiebreak.

I thought R could have beaten Alcaraz if he had consolidated his break and stayed on top of his game.
