30 year old Barrère is currently ranked No. 115, with a career high of No. 49 achieved in July last year following a semi-final showing at the Eastbourne International. After what was quite a fruitful first half of the season for him, this was followed by a series of largely poor results which saw him drop out of the top 100 and even consider retiring from the sport. In April this year, ranked No. 128, he reached the semi-final of the ATP Țiriac Open in Bucharest as a qualifier, defeating Thanasi Kokkinakis, third seed Sebastian Korda and eighth seed Pedro Martinez before losing to the 5th seed Mariano Navone. In his first match here he defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-6(7-0), 6-2.
He has won five ATP Challenger singles titles as well as five Challenger doubles titles in his career.
