The two have met once before, at the Swiss Indoors in Basel last October, with Andy winning 7-5, 6-4, but not without problems. Andy was leading 5-2 in the first then allowed Hanfmann to level by failing to serve the set out, the set itself lasting for 1 hr 24 mins, the first three games alone taking 25 mins.
32 year old Hanfmann, who is currently ranked No. 59, has a career high of No. 45 achieved in July last year. Since then his main achievement has been reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open doubles with Dominik Köpfer as an unseeded pairing. In singles he succeeded in reaching the quarter-finals of the Cordoba Open, and R3 in Miami.
He is known for his strong serve and a powerful forehand, which he often uses to dictate play and take control of rallies. He also likes to use drop shots. He has six Challenger titles, all of them won on clay.
