WithdrawsAndy, who lifted the title here in 2017 beating Fernando Verdasco in straight sets despite almost losing in the quarter-finals to Philipp Kohlschreiber where he had to save seven match points, played here last year, defeating Christopher O'Connell in the first round in three then losing to Jannik Sinner in straights in the next. The draw doesn't get any easier though as he'll play the 5th seed Hubert Hurkacz in round 1. The 2nd round shouldn't be quite as tricky if he gets there, but there's the prospect of Djokovic in the quarter-finals. Draw - https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/current/dubai/495/drawsDubai is GMT+4

A counter puncher like Andy always fights back.
|
Does anyone know if he has to defend many points in Dubai?

As Hurkacz won his final I should imagine he may well be on a high for more tennis?

This is a strange article. Murray makes no reference to his hip and says he's just being cautious. Maybe they were referring to his historical hip injuries. Bad reporting if that's the case...?

I wondered that too because it's been a long time since he's mentioned anything to do with his hip, and also his movement round the court in the Doha final seemed perfectly ok.

Understandable decision from Andy. He had a nearly perfect week and has to manage his body carefully. As long as he plans to play in IW, I assume he is physically ok.

Andy just does not want to overdo it, no mention from him about hip injury .
