Andy at the French Open

Quote

Andy last played here in September 2020, losing in R1 to Stan Wawrinka in straight sets in what were miserable cold and windy conditions.  His greatest achievement was getting to the finals in 2016 when he lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets.

This year he's also playing doubles with Dan Evans, the pair having been awarded a wild card into the main draw, and in so doing becoming the first entirely non-French men's doubles team to get a main draw wild card in over two decades, but as Amelie Mauresmo is Tournament Director, that could be why.

The tournament starts on Sunday 26 May, the first round being played over three days.

Matches can be watched in the UK on Eurosport TV channel, or live-streamed on Discovery+ for a sub of £6.99/month.

Andy will play Stan Wawrinka in round 1.

Should he get to R2, he could possibly play Cameron Norrie, with the No. 2 seed Jannick Sinner (if fit) in R3.

DOUBLES -

Andy and Dan play Sebastian Baez & Thiago Seyboth Wild in R1, and if they beat them, then possibly the No. 2 seeds Bopanna & Ebden.

Andy and Dan aren't on the doubles schedule for Tuesday, possibly because Dan will play his match against Holger Rune in the evening session.

Also if Andy was planning on playing at the Surbiton Trophy next week (and his name is still on the players' list), he can't unless he gets permission to do so.  The GS rules state - "No player who has entered and been accepted into the Main Draw of a Grand Slam Tournament shall play in any other tennis event during the period of such tournament unless authorised by the GSB.  Violation of this Section shall result in a fine of up to $20,000."

I think he will just give Surbiton a miss as he can't let Dan down

Chris the whole point is that he can't play there unless he gets permission from the Grand Slam Board, because if he did he'd be breaking the rules - read my post
