Andy at Open 13 Provence, Marseille

Quote

The Open 13 Provence is played on indoor hard courts.  It will be the 32nd edition of the Open 13 and one of the ATP Tour 250 series.  It will take place at the Palais des Sports in Marseille from 5th - 11th February.  The tournament was founded in 1993 and was the project of former tennis player and native of Marseille Jean-Francois Caujolle, who is now its Director.  The number 13 in the tournament name is the INSEE (Institut National de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques) code of the Bouches-du-Rhone department, of which Marseille is the capital.

Andy has only played here once before, in 2008 when he won the title by defeating Mario Ancic in straight sets.

The player field is headed by the defending champion, world No. 8 Hubert Hurkacz.   Grigor Dimitrov will be the No. 2 seed followed by Karen Khachanov, Ugo Humbert, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Lorenzo Musetti, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jiri Lehecka.
.
Jamie is also playing here in the doubles partnering Michael Venus.

Andy plays 23 year old world No. 66 Thomas Machac in round 1, and if he wins that, the winner of Maximilian Marterer vs Lorenzo Musetti in round 2, with the prospect of the No, 1 seed Hubert Hurkacz in the QF.

^ Not too bad. He really does need a win in R1 otherwise his brain will be totally scrambled for competition. I am always apprehensive of his first round efforts as he never seems to be 'in the groove' ready for them. Perhaps he should play 'a match' there today or tomorrow to be ready on that surface?
I wish him well to get his game going in 2024.

Andy plays Tomas Machac who is ranked 66 in the world and had a decent run in Australia & beat Etcheverry in Brisbane in 3 sets.  If he wins that he'd likely play Musetti which would be tough.  But overall seems a decent draw and a chance for a potential first win of the season.

OOP for Monday shows only 3 main draw matches but Andy's is not one of them.
