I watched that match. It was so disappointing.  My view is that with a bit of good advice he would do a lot better. That is if he took it.

Every drop shot was terrible so he needs to also give those up.
He really should play a warm up match for at least half an hour before entering the court for R1.

In the end his luck ran out with those two points at the end that looked impossible not to win.

Roll on Paris and Bordeaux for another chance. I am sure he will do better next time out.

Oh dear nearly a great come back but those two silly shots at the net.

Btw, Andy is in good company with his R1 loss: yesterday Diego lost against a relatively unknown French player. Today Ruud and Musetti were surprisingly defeated. All of them have had a more or less terrible year so far.

Andy has reacted to the disappointment of his defeat by Vassavori by taking a wild card into next week's Challenger tournament, Open Provence Crédit Agricole in Aix-en-Provence, which sounds a very good idea to me.

Jamie is going to be playing there in the doubles as well but it's not clear if he's partnering Andy or not.

^ Aileen,
I think that sensible also. In my opinion he needs at least three matches to get match fit to play on clay.

I doubt if it will be easy as there are so many court players lower in the rankings that might test him. A bit confused by the article thoughas Monfils is not ranked 15th but outside the top 300!

I did notice that about Monfils whose current ranking is No. 322!

I agree it won't be easy because I understand that 21 of the other 28 singles players are inside the top 100.
