Miami dbls R2: A Murray/S Korda vs K Krawietz/T Pütz

Not surprising really.  Having watched a replay of the incident it didn't look all that good, so why play and  risk wrecking himself for the short time he has left.

He has a sprained ankle which will take about 6 weeks to recover from. A bit of bad luck for Andy. But he will be back. At least he knows how good he can play still. Get well quickly Sir Andy, enjoy being home with wife and kids. ❤️

He confirmed he suffered a full rupture of his anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and near full-thickness rupture of his calcaneofibular ligament (CFL).

Murray will now see a specialist to "determine the next steps".

The three-time major winner, who returned from hip resurfacing surgery in 2019, said: "[It] goes without saying this is a tough one to take."

But he added: "I'll be back with one hip and no ankle ligaments when the time is right."

That is bad news. I was already considering going to Munich to see him once more playing live. May he recover soon to be ready for what there is to come.

I think the doubles match was cancelled because Korda was still playing his singles match when the doubles match was almost to begin.

Korda would have been allowed up to one hour's rest, so the match would have been delayed.  That though is not the reason the match was cancelled because Andy ruptured two ligaments in his ankle, so will be out 'for an extended period'.

Unfortunately he has torn two ligaments so could be out for 3 - 6 months.

Wow, will he come back. After that?

He'll want the end to be of his own choosing. Wimbledon still a good bet.

With a minimum recovery time of 3-4 months, I doubt he'd be fit enough to play at Wimbledon especially without any warm-up  tournaments.  Even the Paris Olympics could be stretching it a bit.  I know he says he'll be back, but maybe better to retire now rather than spend months trying to get back to full match fitness, play a handful of matches, and then do so.

I don‘t know what to make of it. Andy has often pointed out that he would call it a day if one more severe injury happened. Is this the straw that finally breaks his back? Have we seen his last ever match? Without any decent farewell? After he has shown the best performance in a tournament after a long time?
On the other hand, many months of absence, with the grass-court season and the Olympics being the outstanding events for him, cannot be too motivating at this stage of his career. In his latest interview it sounded as if he found it increasingly stressful to be competitive and finally has come to peace with facing the end of playing. I simply don‘t know what to hope for.

It will be a lot of hard work to come back from this, so I think this may be the end - maybe it is fitting for it to be at Miami, a place that he considered his 2nd home and where he had some great success in the past.

That was my impression too, and why I found it a bit strange that he was now vowing to return.  He's reportedly back in London, so we might have a better idea of his future plans once he's seen a specialist.   He's said too that he doesn't want a fuss when he retires, so another good reason for doing it now because apart from Wimbledon there really is no suitable place for him to do so.  Maybe a few days at home with his family might help too once he's got the buzz of Miami out of his system.

I agree.

UPDATE

Andy has now seen a specialist in London and issued an update. It read:

“Following consultation with his team and medical experts, Andy has taken the decision to miss the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters and BMW Open Munich.  At this stage, it is still not clear how long Andy will be out of action, and he is continuing to review options with his medical team. Obviously this is very disappointing news for Andy and he has reiterated his desire to get back on court as soon as possible. He thanks all his fans for their kind messages of support and will continue to update everybody as the situation evolves.”
