^^ The Times take on it: "Great Britain's achievement in winning the Davis Cup for the first time since 1936 has been recognised in the Queen's birthday honours list with Jamie Murray and Leon Smith appointed OBE. Smith was captain of the British team who defeated Belgium in Ghent last November and Murray, a doubles specialist, was a key player along with his younger brother Andy." Really pleased for them - but typically, there's something not quite right here.... Hard to believe it's nearly 4 years since Andy got his - for his Olympic Gold - and that his Wimbledon win and his DC involvement have been passed over since then.

@matchpoint - If you're thinking in terms of a knighthood, my understanding is that anyone with an OBE or CBE would have to wait for a minimum of five years before that could be awarded, regardless of what they achieve in the interim.

Touch the sky - and touch it he did.

it's not a hard and fast rule I believe Aileen but I suspect now they're waiting until the end of Andy's active playing career to recognise him with a knighthood. It's even possible he has intimated he'd prefer that behind the scenes I can imagine. In the meantime, whatever one thinks of the honours system, delighted that Leon and Jamie have got their gongs.

Thank you for clarifying that Ruthie. I can certainly understand why Andy wouldn't want a knighthood while he's still competing, but my own feeling is that, if it does happen, and it isn't a given anyway no matter what we might think, then it'll be at the end of his playing career.

I think it's wrong that Andy has not been given recognition for his services to tennis. If Rod Stewart can be given a knighthood why can't Andy. I think the Murray brothers and Leon Smith have done wonders for tennis in the UK. I must admit I am no lover of the honors system in it's present form but recognition of services to the country could be done in a different format. Also more ordinary people's services to the country should be given just my opinion.

No I am a Scot I Do not like the the honors system as such. I would much prefer for ordinary people to be rewarded for their work to their community and their country. The UK Is so riven with class that should not count for anything.
