I've posted some links to French articles with Amelie's assessment of the AO final, but Simon Briggs (who was, in my opinion, chief among the media sh*t stirrers after the O2 last year) has just published a article in English which covers a little bit more than the French articles did. Amazingly he manages to be utterly impartial.

And one from Paul Newman with some additional quotes - slightly exaggerated article title though (there is stuff about Pat Cash's opinion in this article, so if you don't want to read that don't read below the photo of Kim)

I've just come across a translation of a L'Equipe interview with Amelie which was published on Saturday. The translation has been posted by @markalannixon via Twitlonger. It does sound quite a lot as if her hands were tied until late November, though she isn't actually saying this, it also sounds as if she has a great deal of determination to succeed with this job (not that I ever doubted that, though I think some people did).

Hopefully France can make a stab at raking things back tomorrow. Was never going to be easy for them but today was hard.

Fairly certain that I am the only person on MW even remotely interested in what France are doing in their Fed Cup tie vs Italy, but here's an update anyway.
Amelie replaced Alize Cornet with Kiki Mladenovic in today's match against Sara Errani. A fair few people on the internet thought she was mad to do so, but Kiki won the match 6-4 6-3 - she really stepped up and my word she can hit the ball well, such hard, flat, clean shots, really went after Errani's serves. Shaky on her own serve a few times and did go from 5-1 in the second set to fighting to serve the match out. So France are still in the tie but Italy lead 2-1. Camila Giorgi vs Caroline Garcia next. I'm hoping Giorgi plays like she did in Hobart rather than like she did yesterday vs Cornet.

Aww ... Maybe Andy might have done if he'd been around!

I expect you probably are, but it's interesting to see that Amelie's replacement tactic worked. Not only was it sound judgement but it seems she believes in letting the younger players have a chance to step up to the plate and show what they can do, particularly as part of a team.

Glad I'm not the only one keeping an eye on things. Garcia's going to have to really step things up in the second set. Watching this it is interesting to see the difference between the way the captains get involved and how they do things at the sit downs. The Italian captain just kind of sits there and chats whereas Amelie is much more involved - her personal investment in Fed Cup really comes through (she looks exhausted though).
This court is so bad. Garcia has a break point but they have had to stop play to fix a hole on the baseline and get the baseline tape back in place.

Kiki was a good choice. Alize is a junkballer, no power. Errani would have been able to beat her.

Alize just can't play Fed Cup and Kiki was a good choice no doubt about it.
The court mending has taken on comic proportions. Seriously absurd. There were 3 guys, a watering can, a broom, and a mallet and a woman in high heels (yes really) all standing over this bit of baseline, at one point Amelie went over to look at what was going on and the look on her face said it all.
Finally they get back on court and Caro gets the break point with a lucky net cord.

Update on court mending. There's now a guy with a bricklaying trowel in addition to the man with the broom, the man with the mallet, the man with the watering can and the woman in high heels. Amelie continues to look at them as if she's about to wrest the tools from their hands and fix it herself.

Likewise but sounds rather like the Davis cup last year. Courts were dodgy there too. It's part of what makes them

Not the dodgy courts, but mean the way you describe them sorting it out. In their own unique style

Yes it was reminiscent of that. The look on Amelie's face made it even more hilarious though. The whole thing was like something out of a sitcom. I do hope a photographer caught it - she may have been facing away from them at that point though.
Caro fancied trying out as a baker and delivered a bagel in that set.
