The Gift that keeps on giving.

I loved the way Andy talked about Amelie and thought she looked close to tears. Really does feel like his instincts were right in this coaching relationship and I'm so pleased.
I think that's a bit fanciful, about the tears.

Funny how things come about. Andy wins Wimbledon, goes to the ball and makes friends with Marion Bartoli, who'd ditched her dad and taken on Amelie, who coached her to the Wimbledon title. Bartoli retires and recommends Amelie to Andy. If Bartoli hadn't won that title, it might never have happened.
You could go mad analysing the world that way. Some might argue that the hour called forth the woman - a need existed and it found a solution.

Maybe, but she was definitely touched by what Andy said

why fanciful? Perfectly natural reaction and I'm not the only one who thought so as has been made clear on another thread.

It was certainly an emotional moment for both of them, and they are both emotional people. Andy's voice was breaking up a bit at that point in the interview so we might also say that he was close to tears. After Andy got off court and greeted his team David Law from BBC Radio 5 Live reported this on Twitter: @DavidLawTennis Murray greets team back stage. Big hug with Amelie Mauresmo. @bbctennis I don't know if anyone listens to the Tennis Podcast which Law does with Catherine Whittaker but in last night's edition of the podcast Whittaker said that when she interviewed Andy briefly after the match he spoke so eloquently about Amelie and women as coaches that Whittaker almost hugged him - she's usually pretty fair and balanced on the subject of Andy.

Fanciful because I saw no evidence of it.

I thought she looked very pleased but no sign of tears. Andy's voice started to wobble when Dani was mentioned. I thought the whole interviewas quite emotional and all the talk of Dani in another box got to him a bit.

well I thought I saw her eyes welling up. But what does it matter. The fact is, as atl says, it's clear both of them felt pretty emotional. Atl thanks for the info about the podcast. Loved the bit about Whittacker. It's interesting that, having been eclipsed by FF-gate yesterday, today's papers are full of what Andy said about female coaches. I think Andy has made himself a whole lot of new friends this week.

There's a full page profile of Amelie in today's Guardian (main part of the paper) but I'm afraid I've been unable to find it on line. Perhaps someone better at finding stuff on line can unearth it? The author is Esther Addley

I posted it in the news articles thread, but not here. In future I'll also post Amelie articles here as well.
